Online Interventions
Looking for virtual interventions to engage and reach SNAP-Ed clients?
Intervention Name | Overview | Considerations for Online Delivery |
Common Threads: Small Bites Program | The Common Threads: Small Bites Program is a direct education intervention designed to increase nutrition knowledge, vegetable consumption, and variety of vegetables consumed. | Small Bites is a digital nutrition curriculum. To access the Small Bites digital resources, visit https://www.commonbytes.org/#!/resources/40. |
EatFresh | EatFresh.org is mobile-friendly website that was created for the SNAP-Ed population and the organizations that serve them. It provides practical resources and encouragement for individuals with varying levels of digital literacy, internet access, health awareness and culinary skills. | EARS data and pre/post surveys are built-in, along with a referral code system that allows SNAP-Ed Implementing Agencies to track their participants. |
Eat, Move, Win | Eat, Move, Win is a direct education intervention, which consists of five online lessons that seek to improve high school students’ awareness of their food environment and the link between food and health. | Eat Move Win is entirely online and available for virtual learning. There are a few features that work best in a classroom setting but can easily adapted to online delivery or do not effect the fidelity of the program if not used. |
FNV | The FNV Campaign is a social marketing and PSE change intervention that aims to present fruits and vegetables in a way that is both fun and cool, ultimately shifting attitudes, behavior and social norms relative to healthy eating. | FNV can successfully be implemented as a digital campaign solely. |
Food eTalk | Food eTalk is direct education intervention designed to increase participant’s daily intake of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products; decrease daily intake of sodium; improve food resource management, food safety practices, and physical activity. | Currently, Food eTalk is restricted to SNAP-Ed eligible Georgians following the guidance from the federal and state agencies. Developers will provide updates if their capacity to serve other states increases. |
Text2BHealthy | Text2BHealthy is a social marketing and direct education text message-based intervention designed to stimulate positive behavior change in parents with respect to grocery shopping habits, fruit and vegetable consumption and physical activity. | Historically, in-person recruitment has been the best method for enrolling participants in a text message program. SNAP-Ed Implementing Agencies will need to develop a strategy for recruiting and enrolling participants virtually. |
VeggieBook, a mobile app for android and IOS smartphones | VeggieBook is a social marketing and direct education intervention app that is designed to help users choose customized recipes and healthy eating tips which ultimately lead to increased vegetable-based preparation for meals at home. | The version of VeggieBook currently available on the App Store and Play Store is found by entering “Veggiebooks” and looking for the steaming green pot icon. |
This list may not be exhaustive of all potential virtual interventions listed in the SNAP-Ed Toolkit. Please email snapedtoolkit@unc.edu if your evidence-based intervention can be implemented virtually. The SNAP-Ed Toolkit Team is currently highlighting interventions that have completed process (e.g. fidelity) and outcome (e.g. effectiveness) evaluations for virtual delivery of interventions.
